Mr. Paul Redmond Wood Sr., age 78, died Jan. 29, 2012, at Vidant Pungo Hospital.

A graveside funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. Wednesday at Belhaven Community Cemetery conducted by James Scheffler.

Mr. Wood was born in Wilkes County on April 4, 1933, to the late George Washington Wood and Mary Ocea Rutter Wood. He married the former Hilda Cahoon, who preceded him in death on Dec. 6, 2004. Mr. Wood served his community for many years through his employment at Tideland Electric of Pantego, where he retired in 1995.

Mr. Wood is survived by his children: Paul Wood Jr. and wife Peggy, and Carolyn Rose Wood; grandchildren, Paul R. “Trey” Wood III, Bethany Wood Norris and Emily Wood; great-grandchildren, Jonathan Foreman and Carter Wood; a brother, Howard Wood; and a sister, Deannie Wood.

In addition to his parents and wife, Mr. Wood is preceded in death by a brother: Von Wood; and two sisters, Pearl Wood and Rosalee Quidley.
