Sound Off highlights anonymous, brief takes on the news offered via telephone by Daily News readers.

I totally agree with state House Rep. Larry Pittman who said we ought to go back to hangings. There are too many people sitting on death row. It’s costing the taxpayers (a lot) of money each year. … I think hanging would be a very good solution to go back to. I think you would reduce the crime rate a whole lot because people don’t want to be hung.

One of my neighbors called (the other) night about possible gunfire in our neighborhood. We saw a Beaufort County deputy ride through and never even hit his brakes. One car, and it took 20 minutes to get here. He never found what it was, although the neighborhood investigated and figured out what it was. I just want to let y’all know the Beaufort County Sheriff’s Office did not do its job.

Concerning the person who wrote they were sick and tired of police officers who get in accidents and drive too fast: If they drive real slow, they will never catch those breaking the law. Yes, they get paid, but not nearly the amount they’re worth for keeping us safe.
