Ray Mitchell Gibbs, 75, a resident of 4500 Loop Road, Scranton, died Saturday, Feb. 4, 2012, at Vidant Medical Center, Greenville.
Born in Hyde County June 6, 1936, he was the son of the late Leland Sr. and Myrtle Armstrong Gibbs. He was married to the former Leah Gibbs who survives.
He was a member of the Sladesville Missionary Baptist Church.
A funeral will be conducted at 2 p.m. Monday at the family plot in the Sladesville Missionary Baptist Church Cemetery. The Rev. Gary Saffell will officiate.
In addition to his wife, surviving are a son, Mitchell Wayne Gibbs and wife, Vanessa, of Greenville; a granddaughter, Mackenzie Ray Gibbs; a brother, Leland Gibbs Jr. and wife, Carolyn, of Scranton; a sister, Helen Gibbs Steptoe and husband, J.W., of Scranton.
The family suggest that memorials be directed to Sladesville Missionary Baptist Church c/o Judy Midyette, 2635 Lynnsburg Road, Scranton, NC 27875.
