WHS sends six to regionals

The Washington wrestling team had a strong showing in the Coastal Conference meet over the weekend as six players advanced to the NCHSAA 3-A East regional meet and two players locked down conference titles.
Devon Van Cura and Jack Rodman each won Coastal Conference crowns as Van Cura was tops in the 152-pound weight class and Rodman pinned down first in the 182-pound weight class.
The Pam Pack also had two conference runners up as Jason Gardner placed second in the 113-pound category and Ned Batts grabbed silver in the 160-pound division.
In the 145-pound division, Thomas Remick wrestled his way to a third-place finish while David Giordano placed fourth in the 120-pound weight class.
The Pam Pack will be back in action in two weeks when they compete in the NCHSAA 3-A East Regional at Rocky Mount.
As a team, Havelock High School earned the conference championship and was followed by Jacksonville.
