Washington is going to be invaded, but not by Union forces again. This invasion is by the Ignite Student Conference.

In its fifth year, this one-day conference invites children and young adults to attend. By way of ISC, about 400 people have made a commitment to Jesus Christ since 2008, and ISC organizers hope this number will continue to grow.

On Saturday, the Rocky Hock Playhouse will host children and adults who want to learn about God from pastors and youth ministers. One of the speakers, Adam Durso, is nationally known for speaking to children and young adults about God. Two performers, Casey Darnell and Awake the Fire, are scheduled to perform.

Darnell is from North Point Church in Alpharetta, Ga. He is a praise and worship leaders. He recently released a new album titled “When the Waters Rise.”

Awake the Fire recently won New Bern-based Fish Radio’s Battle of the Bands competition, sweeping all the categories.

Other pastors scheduled to participate in the conference include Ron Bousquet and David Snyder.

For the first time, there will be a youth-leaders workshop hosted by Durso. The workshop, slated from 3:30 p.m. to 5 p.m., is for any youth minister or volunteer. It is free with the purchase of a ticket for the event. Tickets for the show are $10 a person. They may be purchased at Good News Christian Bookstore in Washington, O’Neal’s Cellular in Belhaven or Itickets.com. Doors open at 5 p.m., and the show starts at 6 p.m.
