Johnnie G. Graddy

Johnnie G. Graddy, 87, of the 600 Block of Marcus Street, Chesapeake, Va., passed away peacefully March 3, 2012, at his home. He was born on July 14, 1924, in Washington to the late Matthew Graddy Sr. and Nellie Grimes. Johnnie was U.S. Army World War II veteran and a retired rigger from the Norfolk Naval Supply Center.

Johnnie was predeceased by his loving wife, Neva Pearl; son, Johnnie Melvin; grandson, Randolph Jr.; and sisters, Mamie Banks and Ivy Harris. He is survived by six loving children, Jerome Tyner of New York, Betty Mitchell, Deborah Quinn of Chesapeake, Jannie Taylor (Harry) of Washington, D.C., Randolph Sr. (Edith) of Alexandria, and Rudolph Sr. (Sharon) of Madison, N.J.; ten grandchildren, Michael (Paula), Cynthia, Aaron, Rodman, Brandi, Brandon, Byron, Aaryn, Rudolph Jr., and Alexandria; seven great-granchildren, Brian, Nathaniel, Jonnie, Joshua, Michaella, Tyere, and Aaron Jr.; two brothers, Larry (Mary) and Matthew II (Delores); two sisters, Florence Lodge and Wilma Speight (Arthur); and a host of nieces, nephews, and dear friends.

A celebration of his life will be conducted at noon Wednesday at First Baptist Church, Berkley, 706 Berkley Ave. Ext., Norfolk, Va., with pastor William D. Tyree III officiating. Visitation will begin at 11 a.m., where family and friends may gather. Burial will follow at Rosewood Memorial Park.
