Beretta Y. Goodwin

Beretta Yeoman Goodwin, 72, of 105 Greenbriar Lane and formerly of Aberdeen, Md., died Friday, March 9, 2012, in her home.

Born March 17, 1939, in Newport News, Va., she was the daughter of Jean Fletcher Yeoman of Smithfield, Va., and the late Benjamin Wilson Yeoman Sr. A retired teacher and elementary school principal, she was a Methodist by faith.

In addition to her mother, surviving are her husband of 40 years, Howard Paige Goodwin; two daughters, Traci Goodwin Harris and Kara Goodwin Smith and husband Bobby, all of Chesapeake, Va.; a son, Stephen Banks of Washington; a brother, Wilson Yeoman and wife Patricia Herrmann Yeoman of Wilson, N.C.; and two grandchildren, Karlee Grace Smith of Chesapeake and Robert Eric Yarboro, with the U.S. Navy aboard the USS George H.W. Bush.

A memorial service will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday, March 17, in the chapel of Miller Funeral Home & Crematory, 735 Virginia Road, Edenton, by the Rev. Bob Young. Burial will follow at a later time at the family plot at historic Benn’s Church in Smithfield, Va. Friends may join the family from 7 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. Friday at the funeral home and other times at the residence.
