A cause worth cutting the rug

The Marion L. Shepard Cancer Center in Washington has been a blessing to cancer victims and their families, working to “improve the mind, body and spirit of cancer patients, survivors and caregivers.”

Its mission is aided through financial support and promotion from the Shepard Cancer Foundation.

Saturday night is an opportunity to demonstrate our support for the foundation at the fifth-annual Shaggin’ for a Cause. Jim Quick & Coastline will provide the entertainment for the St. Patrick’s Day dance at the Washington Civic Center. There will be a cash bar, heavy hors d’oeuvres and silent and live auctions.

Nurses from the cancer center started Shaggin’ for a Cause after seeing the financial struggles of cancer patients and their families. Proceeds from the event helped establish the patient-assistance fund. Over the years, contributions have helped provide complementary therapies programs.

Tickets are $25 per person and may be purchased at the cancer center or Vidant Wellness Center (formerly Lifestyles Medical Fitness Center).

Break out your dancing shoes and two-step over to the Civic Center this weekend. Your generosity will give a cancer patient happy feet.
