At 4:47 a.m. on Feb. 23, the Beaufort County Sheriff’s Office got a report of breaking and entering on Mouth of the Creek Road in Chocowinity. According to a press release from the sheriff’s office, Deputy Scott Williams and others responded to the scene. While investigating, Williams realized some of the items reported stolen matched items he’d seen inside a vehicle during a DWI arrest of a woman earlier in the day. During the follow-up investigation, Investigator Jim Adams later received a report of larceny of a credit card and credit card fraud involving the same suspect.

The investigation resulted in the March 8 arrest of Brooke Danielle Jones, 23, of Goose Creek Road, Washington. Jones was charged with felony breaking and entering, larceny after breaking and entering, financial-card theft and financial-card fraud.

“If you steal anything once you’ve committed a break-in, it’s an instant felony,” Maj. Kenneth Watson of the sheriff’s office explained. “The value of the property doesn’t matter.”

Jones was held in the Beaufort County Detention Center on a $10,000 secured bond.
