Sound Off highlights anonymous, brief takes on the news offered via telephone by Daily News readers.

It is great that the Washington Daily News sponsored the spelling bee. All those children put in a lot of time and effort to be recognized by their schools. I could not believe the cheap, disappointing rewards for these efforts. You can do better than that.

I cannot believe that there are some people who think that the soul and the spirit of a body is buried in the area where the body is buried. If you want a real, strong message on that, the person that you knew is a figment of your imagination. The soul rests with God. Read the holy word.

I’m calling to say thanks to Clarence Gray with the City of Washington’s Inspections Department. He has been most helpful in trying to control the developing junkyards along U.S. Highway 17 Business near Whichard’s Beach Road. I really appreciate what he has done, and it’s been a pleasure to deal with him. Thank you, Clarence.

Evidently the person stating there was no gas in Bath does not shop locally or he or she would know there is gas and diesel in Bath.

This is a consumer alert. I just got a call on my cellphone telling me I won a $1,000 Wal-Mart gift card. I called Wal-Mart. It is a scam. Please alert your readers of this.
