Mrs. Sibyl A. Hodges

Mrs. Sibyl Josephine Askew Hodges, 93, a former resident of 695 E. Main St., Belhaven, died Wednesday, March 28, 2012, at Autumnfield of Belhaven.

Graveside services will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday at Belhaven Community Cemetery in Belhaven, conducted by the Rev. Greg Nunley.

Mrs. Hodges was born in Washington County on Nov. 29, 1918. She was the daughter of the late James Franklin Askew and Josephine Bowen Askew. Mrs. Hodges was a homemaker and a seamstress. She was a member of the First Christian Church in Belhaven and the Christian Women’s Fellowship. Mrs. Hodges loved to bake and was known for her cakes. She enjoyed making baby blankets.

On Feb. 18, 1938, she married James Willis Hodges, who preceded her in death Feb. 17, 2008.

Mrs. Hodges is survived by her daughter, Mary Jo Allen and her husband Bonner of Pantego; daughter-in-law, Elizabeth Hodges of Belhaven; three grandchildren, Anthony and Michael Allen of Pantego and James Brandon Hodges and wife Shannon of Mebane and three great-grandchildren, Kayla, Jayce and Aubry Hodges.

In addition to her parents and her husband, Mrs. Hodges was preceded in death by a son, James Byron Hodges; a grandson, Raymond Bruce Allen; two brothers, Lester and Chester Askew and a sister, Alma Bowen.

The family would like to thank Jack Credle, special friend; the staff and residents of Autumnfield; and Asera Care and Hospice for being such good friends for these past five years.

The family will receive friends from 7 p.m. until 8:30 p.m. today at Paul Funeral Home in Belhaven and other times at the home of her daughter and son-in-law, Mary Jo and Bonner Allen, 743 N.C. Highway 99 North, Pantego.
