Mr. William Edward Wilcox Sr., age 88, a resident of 216 Wilcox Lane, Vanceboro, died Thursday, March 29, 2012.

Graveside services will be at 2 p.m. Tuesday at Haw Branch Church of Christ Cemetery and will be conducted by the Rev. Lee Hendricks.

Mr. Wilcox was born Sept. 25, 1923, in Fitzpatrick, W.Va., to the late Robert and Mary Louise Kelly Wilcox. On Oct. 7, 1944, he married Wanda Olene who preceded him in death on April 6, 2007. He was a member of the Denbigh Baptist Church, Warwick Masonic Lodge #336, Khedire Masonic Shrine Temple, Peninsula Shrine Club and 32nd Degree Scottish Rite Warwick Chapter in Portsmouth, Va. He retired from Sears Roebuck after 40 years of service in sales.

Survivors include one son, William Edward Wilcox Jr. and wife Joy of Vanceboro; six grandchildren, William Kelly Wilcox, Michelle Lea Everett, William Christopher Michael Wilcox, Victor James Wilcox, Victor Nathaniel Wilcox, Jennifer Louise Wilcox; one nephew, Lee Warren Mills; two brothers, James Wilcox of Tidewater, Va., Theral Wilcox of Tazewell, W.Va.; two sisters, Mary Alice Nesbitt of Holston, Va., Dorothy Jean Pack of Holston, Va. He was preceded in death by one son, Victor Howard Wilcox; and four brothers, Johnny Wilcox, Donald Wilcox, Jack Atkins and John Atkins.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Sudan Temple Crippled Children’s Fund, P. O. Drawer 490, New Bern, NC 28563-0490 or Khedive Shrine Center, 645 Woodlake Drive, Chesapeake, VA 23320.

The family will receive friends from 7 p.m. until 8 p.m. Monday at Paul Funeral Home & Crematory of Washington and other times at the home.
