A wealth worth celebrating

Common wisdom tells us that knowledge is power. It often makes the difference between failure and success.

In today’s information age, you do not need great wealth in order to obtain knowledge. It can be found for free inside the local library.

Today is the start of National Library Week, a national observance started in 1958 by the American Library Association. This year’s theme is “You belong @ your library.”

Despite municipal budget cuts, Washington residents are fortunate to have two libraries at their disposal: the George H. and Laura E. Brown Library and the Beaufort-Hyde-Martin Regional Library.

Modern libraries have developed through the years and are no longer limited to books. Technological resources provide patrons with more resources than ever before.

If you have not been to the library recently, this would be a good week to reacquaint yourself with its assets.

A little knowledge never hurt anyone.
