Southern Bank honors Williams

Chuck Williams, vice president and branch manager in Belhaven, was honored as the top banker in his division at Southern Bank’s annual Best Bankers event held at Kingsmill Resort in Williamsburg, Va.

A native of Swan Quarter, Williams is a graduate of East Carolina University, where he earned a bachelor-of-science degree in political science and a master’s degree in business administration. He is a graduate of the North Carolina School of Banking Mid Management and RMA Commercial Lending School. He is beginning his senior year at the graduate school of banking at Louisiana State University. He has been employed by Southern Bank for the past 18 years.

Williams is an active member of his community. He served as master of the Belhaven Lodge 509 AF&AM from 2005 to 2007. He is a member of the National Society of the Sons of the American Revolution, a past treasurer and member of the Mattamuskeet Jaycees, a past member of the Board of Directors for the Hyde County Chamber of Commerce and past member of the Board of Trustees for Pungo District Hospital. He currently serves as the chairman of Pantego Creek LLC, which represents the former membership of Pungo District Hospital Corporation.

Williams received the Belhaven Community Chamber of Commerce’s Past President’s Award for his 1998-1999 term. He received a service award from the Pungo District Hospital Board of Trustees for his service from April 1998 until April 2004 as a trustee and May 2000 until April 2004 as treasurer.

Williams resides in Pantego with his wife Paula Ruark-Williams, a native of Pantego, and their two daughters. He is a member of Wilkinson Church of Christ in Pantego.
