Mrs. Leah Pauline Windley Edwards, 80, a resident of East 14th Street, Washington, went to be with her Lord on Tuesday, April 10, 2012, surrounded by her family. A graveside celebration of her life will be at 1 p.m. Thursday at Oakdale Cemetery officiated by Pastor Lee. Her grandsons will serve as pallbearers. The family will receive friends from 6 p.m. until 8 p.m. today at Hillside Funeral Service and Cremations, 4500 U.S. Highway 264 East, Washington.
Mrs. Edwards was born in Beaufort County on Jan. 30, 1932, daughter of Alton Windley and Leah Braddy Windley. Leah worked as a custodian for First Baptist Church of Washington for over 20 years and her compassion for helping others lead her to become a Certified Nursing Assistant in 1989. In 1948 she married Hubert Earl Edwards who preceded her in death. She was a member of 15th St. Church of God. Leah was a loving mother, grandmother and sister and will be missed by all.
Mrs. Edwards is survived by her sons, Donald Wayne Edwards and his wife Brenda of Washington, and Terry Ray Edwards and his wife Nancy of Columbia; her daughter, Tracey Edwards Barrow and her husband Greg of Bath; two brothers, six sisters, 13 grandchildren, 14 great-grandchildren and one great-great-grandchild.
In addition to her husband, Leah was preceded in death by one brother and one sister.
