Hoorah for those three Marines in Jacksonville when they took care of business when they walked into their home being burglarized. They need to move to Pitt County is what they need to do.

Great column, Bartow. I love learning about the history of Washington, but actually I did hear you sing that song when the dedication of Harding Square took place. But I think we all need to hear you sing it many times. Please do more columns on our history.

The ferries have always been free because they are categorized as part of the highway system. The Bayview-Aurora ferry is part of N.C. Highway 306, and, as such, it’s been paid for by the gasoline road tax, which the North Carolina road tax is among the highest in the nation. So, we have already paid for the ferries. The Legislature is just trying to bilk us out of more money.
