Dorothy Clark Whitley

Mrs. Dorothy “Dot” Clark Whitley, 77, a resident of 1120 Cowell Farm Road, Washington, died Monday, April 23, 2012, at Vidant Medical Center in Greenville.

Graveside services will be held at 11 a.m. Friday at Oakdale Cemetery, Washington, conducted by Dr. Jimmy Moore.

“Dot”, as she was known by her family and friends, was born in Chocowinity on March 26, 1935. She was the daughter of the late Joseph David Clark and S. Ray Peed Clark. Dot graduated from Washington High School in 1953. She attended Beaufort County Technical Institute (now Beaufort County Community College). On May 14, 1955, Dot married Jerry McCoy Whitley. In 1983, she retired as a bookkeeper. Dot and her husband Jerry lived in Illinois and Maryland before moving back to Washington in 1991.

Dot was a member of the Second Baptist Church in Washington. She loved to knit. “Dot” was “a good daughter, a good wife, a good mother and a good friend.”

She is survived by her husband Jerry McCoy Whitley of the home; her son Jerry McCoy “Mac” Whitley Jr. and his wife Melinda of Nashville, Tenn.; her grandson Casey McCoy Whitley of Chicago, Ill.; her “Daughter in Love,” Jan Woodard and her husband Don of Halifax, Va., and several cousins, nieces and nephews.

The family will receive friends from 7 p.m. until 8:30 p.m. today at Paul Funeral Home and Crematory in Washington.
