Kermit Gene Alligood

Kermit Gene Alligood, 57, went to the “Glory Land” to be with his Lord and Savior on Sunday, April 29, 2012.

A funeral will be held at 11 a.m. Thursday at Beaver Dam Church of Christ, conducted by Billy Ray Askew and Tony Krantz. Burial will follow in the Alligood family cemetery, 648 Mill Hole Road, Washington.

Horace Waters, William Woolard, Joseph Alligood, Johnny Williams, John Kent, Randy Alligood, Doug Alligood and Bryan Scott Alligood will serve as active pallbearers.

Andrew Scott, Jacob Scott, Aaron Douglas, David Gibbs, Ron Fortescue, Herbert Perry, Ken Mooring, Roland Alligood, Phillip Lee, M.H. Apple, Fred Matkins and Ed Spencer will serve as honorary pallbearers.

Kermit was born in Beaufort County on June 22, 1954. He was the son of Coy Hoover Alligood and the late Annie Lillian Alligood. Kermit served in the U.S. Marine Corps. He was owner and operator of Pamlico Custom Countertops. Kermit was a member of Beaver Dam Church of Christ where he had served as an Elder. He loved doing mission work. Kermit helped rebuild houses in Lowland after Hurricane Irene despite his own home being damaged by the storm. In his spare time, he loved gardening and spending time with his children and grandchildren. Fishing with his grandchildren was another special time enjoyed.

Kermit is survived by his loving wife of 38 years, Cindy Lou Woolard Alligood of the home; son, John Worthy Alligood; daughter, Tonya Alligood Scott and husband Ray and their children, Andrew, Jacob, and Anna LaVee Scott; daughter, Nickie Alligood Edge and husband Andy and their daughter, Reagan; father, Coy Hoover Alligood; brothers, Alan L. Alligood and wife Cindy and Charlie O. Alligood; sisters, Teresa A. Freeman and husband Bully, Derise A. Regal and husband Jason and Kathy A. Alligood; mother-in-law, Beulah Faye (Snooks) Woolard; sisters-in-law, Sharon W. Cutler and husband Bill Scott, Lane Woolard and Earnestine (Tine) Woolard; and a host of loving uncles, aunts, nieces and nephews.

In addition to his mother, Kermit was preceded in death by his father-in-law, Coy E. Woolard.

The family will receive friends from 6 p.m. until 9 p.m. today at Paul Funeral Home & Crematory in Washington and other times at the home of his sister-in-law, Earnestine Woolard, 411 Neck Road, Washington.
