Martie Belle Mills Squires

Mrs. Martie Belle Mills Squires, 95, a resident of Greenville, passed away Monday, May 14, 2012.

A funeral will be conducted Saturday at 2 p.m. in the Wilkerson Funeral Chapel in Greenville. Burial will follow in Pinewood Memorial Park.

Mrs. Squires, a native of Craven County, was the daughter of the late Jarvis Mills and Lila Jane Mills. She grew up in Pitt County and attended the Pitt County Schools. She lived in Greenville many years prior to moving to the Winterville community in 1974. A homemaker, she enjoyed cooking, sewing, yard work and helping other people.

For over 40 years, she was a member of Arlington Blvd. Baptist Church and Gibbs Sunday school class. She was also a life member of the Ladies Auxiliary of VFW Post 7032. While a resident at Golden Living Care Center, she enjoyed visiting folks and would walk around spreading her cheerful greeting.

She is preceded in death by her husband, Joseph D. Squires, to whom she was married for 69 years.

She is survived by her sons, Charles D. Squires and wife Carol of Washington and Joseph Ray Squires and wife Janice of Rocky Mount; her daughter Allene Horne of Fayetteville; five grandchildren; four great-grandchildren;  two great-great-grandchildren, and a sister, Amy Webb of Cary.

The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service at Wilkerson Funeral Home and other times at the home of Charles and Carol Squires, 4956 Old Washington Road, Washington.
