Beaufort County Schools students will be released shortly after a momentary delay due to weather moving in from the Craven County area.
“It was a precaution,” said Sarah Hodges, public information officer for Beaufort County Schools, who continued to say the weather threat will only delay the early release for a short time. Parents should still plan to pick their children up as scheduled, Hodges advised.
The National Weather Service has issued a flood watch and hazardous weather outlook for eastern North Carolina today as the remains of tropical depression Beryl travel up the Carolina coast. The forecast is calling for widespread heavy rain with some areas receiving four to six inches where persistent heavier rain bands exist. Some flooding is likely, especially in low-lying and poor drainage areas. As of noon, Washington had seen 1.15 inches of rain; Wilmington, 2.78 inches.
