Hurricane seminar set for Tuesday

The Pamlico Sail and Power Squadron will hold a free hurricane-preparation seminar Tuesday.

The seminar will run from 9 a.m. until noon at the N. C. Division of Water Quality’s office at 942 Washington Square Mall.

While the focus will be on nautical preparations, squadron education officer Tom Graham said much of the information would be useful to nonboaters.

“A lot of this will carry over to anyone. We’re trying to cover all of the things the community needs to do to prepare for a storm,” Graham said.

He cited Lara Pagano’s presentation as an example. Pagano, a forecaster with the National Weather Service, will explain how to take cues from nature that a storm is brewing.

Other speakers include Emory Morgan, emergency manager at Pamlico Plantation, and John Pack, emergency management coordinator for Beaufort County.

Bill Sholl, Cypress Landing dock master, will round out the panel with a discussion of how to secure boats.
