Washington police and fire-rescue-EMS responded to a shooting on East Seventh Street Monday night. At least one shooting victim was transported to Beaufort Vidant Hospital.

A statement from Lt. William Chrismon of the Washington Police Department read, “Last night around 8:40pm, Washington Police, fire and EMS responded to the 800 block of East 7^th upon report of a subject who had been shot.  One victim was located and identified as James David Riddick age 44 of East 7^th street.  Riddick had received a small caliber gunshot wound to the waist area and was transported to Vidant Medical Center Washington and later Pitt.  This appears to have been an isolated altercation between two men over a item of property.  Further details are not being released at this time due to the ongoing investigation.  An update will be released as soon as the investigation allows.”
