Police are seeking a Washington man for Monday night’s shooting on East Seventh Street.

William Earl Little, 19, of East Seventh Street, Washington, has been charged with assault with a deadly weapon with intent to kill after an altercation between Little and James David Riddick, 44, ended with a gunshot wound to Riddick’s abdomen. Riddick was taken to Vidant Beaufort Hospital and later transported to Vidant Medical Center in Greenville where he is recovering from the non-life-threatening injury.

The fight between the two men was an isolated incident over a bicycle and took place in the street outside of 800-802 E. Seventh St. around 8:40 p.m. Monday, according to police sources.

Police have been searching for Little since the incident occurred and are looking for information regarding his whereabouts.

“We’d love to talk to Mr. Little,” said Lt. William Chrismon of the Washington Police Department. “Hopefully, he’ll turn himself in. That would make it easier for everyone….We want to talk to him about the reasoning about the incident…his version of the story.

“Right now, the evidence and the information we have all point to the charges we’ve already obtained,” Chrismon added.

Little has a long list of prior convictions, said Chrismon. In addition to the assault with intent to kill charge, he’s been charged with possession of a firearm by a felon.

Police are asking anyone who has seen Little to contact them 252-946-1444 or call Beaufort County Crime Stoppers at 252-974-6400.
