Harriet E. Grimes

Harriet E. Grimes, 91, a resident of 200 Grimes St., Roper, died June 17, 2012, at home.
A funeral will be conducted at 1 p.m. Saturday at Mount Eprew Baptist Church with the Rev. James W. Harris officiating. Burial will follow in the Cofield family cemetery, Merry Hill.
Mrs. Grimes was born on Sept. 8, 1920, in Bertie County. She was the daughter of the late Claud Cofield and Amanda Smallwood Cofield. She was the widow of the late Luther A. Grimes. Mrs. Grimes was a member of Mount Eprew Baptist Church. She was the 2011 Roper Peanut Festival Queen.
Survivors include two sons, Juan Grimes of Ft. Meade, Md., and Alvin V. Grimes of Columbus, Ga.; daughter, Brenda Grimes Hill of Roper; brother, Willie Elmer Cofield of Merry Hill; four sisters, Zelma Holley of Windsor and Amanda C. Heckstall, Shirley Watkins and Lillian Fryer, all of Merry Hill, eight grandchildren and 10 great-grandchildren.
The family will be receiving friends from 6 p.m. until 7:30 p.m. today at Toodle’s Funeral Home and other times at the home.
