Beaufort County 4-H scored high during the Northeast District 4-H Activity Day events
held June 21 in Elizabeth City.
Beaufort County had 16 youth compete in oral presentations, bringing home 13 medals. Erin Massie and Louise Hinsley, Cooperative Extension Service 4-H agents, believe this was the county’s best year yet.
Youth are divided into three age groups — 9-10, 11-13 and 14-18 — and have five to 12 minutes to present an oral presentation in specific categories of their choice. They gain life skills in public speaking, organization, and responsibility and develop positive self-esteem.
The Beaufort County youth participating were Amber Wade, who won a blue ribbon in 4-H Entertains; Juan Rosario, who won a gold medal in bugs and bees; David Albritton, who won a silver medal in careers and entrepreneurship; Hunter Williams, who won a silver medal in citizenship and civic responsibility; Areyalle Williams, who won a gold medal in citizenship and civic responsibility; Sherfield Smith, who won a silver medal in expressive arts and communications; Carla Rosario, who won a bronze medal in health and fitness; Breonce Thompson, who won a gold medal in public speaking; Keyontae Worsley, who won a bronze medal in safety; Charon Worsley, who won a silver medal in soil, water and the environment; Aprecious Norfleet, who won a sliver medal in the 4-H Chef; Austyn Padilla, who won a gold medal in the 4-H Chef and Jacob Cannon, who won a silver medal in wheels and engines.
David Gomez presented in hospitality, etiquette and social graces, Robert Gomez presented in science and technology and Stacy Norfleet presented in small and companion animals. Alissa Wade, Ishayla Wise, Keziah Worsley and Mahlayia Worsley made presentations in the 5- to 8-year-old Cloverbud category and won green 4-H presentation ribbons.
Gold medalists in the ages 9-10 division, silver and gold medalist in ages 11-13 division and ages 14-18 division will compete in state finals July 20 during N.C. 4-H Congress and to be held at North Carolina State University.
