Mr. Lynn Alynn Smith

Mr. Lynn Alynn Smith,  75, a resident of Catnip Point, Bath, died Tuesday, July 3, 2012. A celebration of his life will be held at 11 a.m. Monday, at St. Thomas Episcopal Church, Bath, officiated by the Rev. Eric John Zubler. The family will receive friends following the service in the fellowship hall.
Lynn was born in Atlanta, Ga., on May 7, 1937, son of Luther Alexander and Hilda Walker Smith. He was raised in Birmingham, Ala. At 13 he moved to North Carolina where he attended Oak Ridge Military Academy where he was Valedictorian of his class of 1955. Mr. Smith earned an NROTC scholarship and graduated from Duke University in 1959 with a degree in mechanical engineering. He served his country in the USMC attaining the rank of First Lieutenant. Lynn was married to the former Martha Pyle who survives. He retired from IBM after 30 years of work in international marketing and sales management. Mr. Smith later worked as director of East Carolina Partnership, N.C. Science and Math Alliance directing programs to help businesses support educational institutions; specifically for K-12 students. He was a member of St. Thomas Episcopal Church, Lions Club, Washington Yacht & Country Club, Bayview Golf Course and Bath Planning Board.
In addition to his wife, he is survived by his son, Lee Andrew Smith, his daughter, Kimberly Lukhard and her husband Wayne and his three grandchildren, Kaylee Shaye Smith, Robert L. Lukhard and Duncan W. Lukhard.
