George Locker Pugh, 89, a resident of Greenville, died Thursday, July 5, 2012.
The funeral will be conducted at 11 a.m. Saturday in the Wilkerson Funeral Chapel. Burial will follow in Pinewood Memorial Park.
Mr. Pugh, a native of Beaufort County, moved to Greenville when he was 15. On Dec. 25, 1942, he married Margie Dean Hudson Pugh, who died in 2002. He served in the U.S. Navy during World War II. He founded Pugh’s Tire and Service Center in 1945, which has now expanded to four locations in Greenville and one in Washington.
He had been a faithful member of the Greenville Church of God and was a founding member of Open Heart Church of God in Ayden, where he served on the Church Board of Directors and as head Deacon. He served two terms on the Greenville City Council and was inducted into the North Carolina Tire Dealers Association Hall of Fame in 2012.
In addition to his wife, he was preceded in death by his parents, Sam and Lillian Pugh; a brother, Linwood “Spooky” Pugh; and two sisters, Margaret Manning and Nita Mae Asby.
He is survived by his son, Sammy H. Pugh and wife, Carol; daughters, Linda Stokes and husband, Wayne, Phyllis Moore and husband, Brinkley, and Judy Pugh, all of Greenville; grandchildren, Stacey Pugh and wife, Danette, Frankie Pugh and wife, Janna, Stephen Pugh and wife, Lindsay Caroline Pugh, Vonda Stokes Harris and husband Chris, Chris Stokes and wife, Stephanie, and Alex Moore; 10 great-grandchildren; and special friend, Wilma Tripp.
The family will receive friends from 6 p.m. until 8 p.m. today at Wilkerson Funeral Home.
