Over the weekend Washington had a strong showing in the Babe Ruth ENC state softball tournament in Laurinburg as the 8U, 10U and 12U teams all advanced to this week’s Southeast Regional tournament which will be held at the Sara Law Complex.
The 10U All-Stars streaked into the championship game with an undefeated record but fell to Pitt County twice, with the last one being a tough 6-4 defeat in extras.
The 12U All-Stars also advanced to the championship game but took a different route as they had to fight their way out of the loser’s bracket to get there. In the title game, Washington yielded only three hits but fell 3-0 to Pitt County.
The 8U All-Stars would place fourth in their division and all three teams will be back in action this week when the Southeast Regional tournament begins. The tournament will hold its opening ceremony on Tuesday and pool play will begin on Wednesday morning at 9 a.m.
The teams will battle for the Southeast Regional title and the chance to advance to the World Series in Florida, which is scheduled to begin on Aug. 1.
