A variety of musical genres will be featured tonight during Music in the Streets, which runs from 6 p.m. to 9 p.m. in downtown Washington.
Groups and individuals such as the Riverboat Jazz Band, Blackwall, The Southerner’s Band, Kimberly Waters, K-OS, John Benson and Ed Tilley, JB and Jason and Kara Carlson are scheduled to perform.
Music in the Streets, a production of the Washington Harbor District Alliance, is in its 10th season. Music in the Streets is held the third Friday of each month from April through October. Sometimes, Music in the Streets is held on a different Friday to coincide with other events taking place downtown. The next Music in the Streets events are set for Aug. 17, Sept. 21 and Oct. 19.
Music in the Streets now has a website: www.mitswashingtonnc.com.
The Riverboat Jazz Band is a New Orleans-style jazz ensemble that includes area residents.
Carlson, a Kinston resident, is a Music in the Streets veteran whose performances include folk and jazz. She also performs songs she’s written.
Waters, a Gospel singer, brings her voice and songwriting talent to downtown Washington again.
The Southerner’s Band, as one may suspect, features a Southern-rock sound, but it also performs blues and songs written by band members. The band’s influences include the Marshall Tucker Band, Allman Brothers, Eric Clapton and Eagles.
This Music in the Streets season, a compilation CD featuring performers from the 2011 season will be sold at Music in the Streets events.
