Beaufort County under another heat advisory

It’s back — that oppressive heat, that is.
Beaufort County and most of eastern North Carolina is under a heat advisory from 11 a.m. until 7 p.m. today.
Heat-index values are expected from 105 degrees to 109 degrees. The heat index, or the “apparent temperature,” is an accurate measure of how hot it really feels when the relative humidity is added to the actual air temperature.
High pressure offshore and a trough of low pressure inland will produce a southwest flow of hot and humid weather across the area today and Friday. Another front is forecast to stall and dissipate over the area this weekend into early next week.
To reduce risk during outdoor work, the Occupational Safety and Health Administration recommends scheduling frequent rest breaks in shaded or air-conditioned environments. Anyone overcome by heat should be moved to a cool and shaded location. Heat stroke is an emergency — call 911.
