Kiwanis awards Key Club kids

The Washington Kiwanis Club has awarded $1,000 scholarships to five local Key Club seniors. Scholarship recipients from Washington High School include Kevin Chavez and Avery Woolard. Lee Pinkham, also a graduate of WHS, was the winner of the Kiwanis Club’s Christopher Francisco Memorial Scholarship. Northside High School winners were Mariah Hawkins and Alexia Greene. In addition, Will Allen and Raven Simpson of Washington High School were selected to receive the Edmund Harding $500 Scholarship presented by the Kiwanis Club. Taking part in the presentation were scholarship chairman David Francisco, Avery Woolard, Mariah Hawkins, Will Allen and Bobby Roberson, club president. The club meets each Tuesday for lunch at King Chicken on Carolina Avenue, Washington. The club welcomes prospective members who have an interest in service to the community. (Submitted photos)
