Two of the area’s largest families will have a special treat at this weekend’s family reunion.
They will get to hear a member of the family speak Sunday. Azaniah Little will be a guest speaker at Metropolitan AME Zion Church’s 11 a.m. service. The worship service is open to the public.
The Rev. David Moore suggested she speak.
“She is a member of the family, and she is in seminary,” Moore said of Little. “I really thought it was appropriate that she speak Sunday.”
Little said she came to salvation while traveling to Johannesburg, South Africa, as a journalist. She covered the release from prison of Nelson Mandela, who later became president of South Africa, and documented his transitional reconciliation government.
Before she began seminary in 1998, Little was a social worker covering child-abuse cases. She also had aspirations of becoming a writer. She earned bachelor’s degrees in radio and television broadcasting and English.
Her manuscript, “Purpose for your Pain,” is in negotiations for publication. It is a story about Jacob and Joseph in the book of Genesis, Little said.
Little would like to build an orphanage in Africa for children victimized by AIDS and war.
