Mrs. Sarah Wylie “Sallie” Williamson, age 65, a resident of Ephesus Church Rd., Blounts Creek, NC, died Thursday, August 2, 2012, at her home. A celebration of her life will be held Monday, August 6, 2012, at 2:00 PM at Trinity Episcopal Church officiated by The Rev. Sonny Browne and Deacon Joy Dosher. Interment will be at a later date at Trinity Cemetery. A reception for family and friends will follow the service in the Parish Hall.
Sallie was born on March 18, 1947, daughter of William and Sarah McDowell Wylie. She was married to William A. Williamson who preceded her in death in 2008. She was a graduate of Limestone College, Gaffney, SC. Sallie retired with the Pitt County Department of Social Services as a social worker. After retirement she worked at the Mid-East Commission as a Family Caregiver Resource Specialist. Sallie was involved in NC4A Family Caregiver Assoc., an officer with the Pitt Aging Coalition, instrumental in the formation of Pitt & Beaufort Resource Connections and the NC Respite Coalition. She was key to the development of Grandparent Raising Grandchildren programs and support groups. She served Trinity Episcopal Church as a member of the vestry and Majestics. She was also an avid sports enthusiast, bridge player and member of the Pirates Club. Most of all she enjoyed laughing.
Sallie is survived by her sons, Neil Travis Williamson who serves in the U.S. Army and Russell Alex Williamson of the home, and her brother, William Wylie Jr. of Buford, GA.
In lieu of flowers the family requests that memorials be made to Trinity Episcopal Church, PO Box 332, Chocowinity, NC or the Greenville Little League.
