The public can help win up to $10,000 in Target gift cards for schools in Beaufort County by voting for their favorite school online. Target is giving away $2.5 million of the gift cards to schools across the country.
Through the “Give with Target” program, participants can vote for local schools via the program’s Facebook page and website. For every 25 to 49 votes a school receives, Target will send the school a $25 gift card to be used for books and supplies. For every 50 to 74 votes, a $50 gift card will be donated. With enough votes, schools can receive up to maximum of $10,000 in gift cards.
Nine schools in Beaufort County are listed on the “Give with Target” website and Facebook page: Eastern Elementary School, Emanuel Christian, John Small Elementary School, Washington Montessori Public Charter School, Beaufort County Early College High School, Washington High School, John Cotten Tayloe Elementary School, Beaufort County Ed Tech and P.S. Jones Middle School.
As of Wednesday afternoon, Eastern Elementary had the lead among local schools with 85 votes, which translates to $75 in Target gift cards.
Participants are able to vote for their favorite school once a week until the promotion ends Sept. 8 or until all $2.5 million in gift cards has been dispersed, whichever comes first. Voters must be legal residents over the age of 13.
According to Target’s website, the company is committed to “its legacy of responsible corporate citizenship, ethical business practices, environmental stewardship and generous community support.”
Since 1946, the corporation has given 5 percent of its income to communities through grants and programs. The website states that today, the 5 percent commitment translates to more than $3 million a week, largely directed towards supporting education. Since 1997, Target has donated over $324 million to K012 schools through the “Take Charge of Education” program.
