Aug. 2, deputies with the Beaufort County Sheriff’s Office arrested Melissa Baker Harris, 44, of Tyler Street, charging the Washington woman with larceny by an employee, according to a press release from the Beaufort County Sheriff’s Office.

The suspect stole approximately $900 over a period of time from the convenience store on Highway 294 East in Washington where she worked, according to Maj. Kenneth Watson, sheriff’s office spokesman.

According to officials, Harris has a long history of run-ins with the law, including a string of worthless checks.

Harris turned herself in to the Magistrates’ Office on Aug.2 and was held in the Beaufort County Detention Center under a $2,500 secured bond.
