Sound Off highlights anonymous, brief takes on the news offered via telephone by Daily News readers.

I wonder how long will it take the DOT to put back the sign along U.S. Highway 17. Drivers going the wrong route and had to make a turnaround.

Let me get this straight: according to a Washington Daily News Aug. 9 article, North Carolina state law requires a photo ID in order to sell or pawn property at a pawn shop. However, no photo ID is currently required in order to vote here, and the argument against that is such a requirement would discriminate against the minorities and the elderly. How does this make any sense? Does that mean minorities and the elderly don’t frequent pawn shops or, more likely, that requiring a voter ID would not be a problem after all?

I’d like to thank the property owners and merchants who are working to improve Main Street. Things are looking much better these days with fresh paint and new awnings. Thanks are due to all of those who are obviously working hard. Hopefully, it’s not too late for Washington after all.

I wonder what it’s going to take for the old mullet wrapper to print an NFL football schedule. I know it’s a big step to handle at 30 days at a time, but a weekly schedule would be fine.
