Rosa Moore Askew

Rosa Moore Askew, 93, of Plymouth, NC, died Thursday, August 23, 2012, at Roanoke Landing.
Rosa was a native of Martin County, the daughter of the late Lee Roy Moore and Susan “Sudie” Roberson Moore. She was also preceded in death by two brothers, Asa Moore and James Moore. Rosa was a graduate of Jamesville High School.
After Rosa and her husband, Lonnie, both retired from the federal government in Washington, DC, they returned to Plymouth to the farm where Lonnie was raised. After living there for three years, they then moved to Jamesville to Rosa’s grandfather’s home place, where they made their home until Lonnie died on October 2, 2006. After Lonnie’s death, she was welcomed into the home of her niece, Debra Askew Avery, and her late husband, Steve, until she went to be with Lonnie. Rosa and Lonnie enjoyed traveling, especially to Las Vegas and Atlantic City.
Rosa is survived by two sisters-in-law, Louise Moore of Jamesville and Agnes Moore of Red Oak; two nieces, Becky Moore of Rougemont and Malissia St. Clair of Clayton; her nephew, James “Jim” Moore of Jacksonville; several nieces and nephews, great-nieces and nephews and great-great nieces and nephews.
Maitland Funeral Home in Plymouth is handling the arrangements, where the family will receive friends Saturday, August 25, from 7:00 to 8:30 p.m. Graveside funeral services will be held at 3:00 p.m. Sunday, August 26, at Hillside Cemetery with Rev. Doug Stokes officiating.
