FAYETTEVILLE (AP) — The State Bureau of Investigation is looking into the wounding of a man after a chase with a Fayetteville police officer through an apartment complex.
Police Lt. Chris Davis said the man was taken to Cape Fear Valley Medical Center after the shooting Sunday evening. He also said the suspect, 38-year-old Herman Harris, is expected to survive.
The officer is 25-year-old Zachary Pittman. The two-year police veteran has been placed on leave while the shooting is investigated.
The officer reported a suspicious vehicle shortly before 7 p.m. and stopped the car. Davis said the driver got out of the car , hopped over a fence and ran into an apartment complex.
The officer caught the man and there was a struggle before the shooting, Davis said.
