Elsie Gibbs Berry
Elsie Gibbs Berry, 88, of 225 Goshen Road, Engelhard, died early Monday, August 27, 2012, at Cross Creek Health Care Center where she has been a patient recently.
Born in Hyde County, June 21, 1924, she was the daughter of the late Willie Rue and Margaret Rue Ballance Gibbs. She was the widow of Beamon Burton Berry who preceded her in death.
A homemaker, Mrs. Berry loved her family deeply, cared especially for her grandchildren, and enjoyed crocheting and cooking. She was a member of the former Home Demonstration Club, now Extension Homemakers, Watson’s Chapel United Methodist Church and was active in the Women’s Society of the church. She found great pleasure in watching her hummingbirds.
Funeral Services will be held at 11:00 a.m. Wednesday at the family plot in Fulford Cemetery, Engelhard. Pastor Jerald Craddock will officiate.
Surviving are a son, Gregory Kyle Berry of Engelhard; a daughter, Pamela K. Berry of Concord; a daughter-in-law, Donna D. Berry of Engelhard; a brother, Russell Wayne Gibbs of Winterville; two sisters, Marjorie G. Sadler and Celia G. Cahoon, both of Swan Quarter; grandchildren, Andrea B. White and husband, Eric of Olanta, SC, Kelley B. Dow and husband, Paul of Mars Hill, NC, Natalie B. Wayne and husband, Robert of Engelhard, Ragan G. Bliss and husband, Jason of Arizona and Dail Berry of Greenville; great-grandchildren, Hayden White, Gavin White, Ross Dow, Brayden Wayne, Lear Wayne and Anna Rose Bliss.
She was preceded in death by a son, Ferrell Allen Berry; a grandson, Timothy D. Berry; a brother, Curtis A. Gibbs.
