Sarah Louise Roper (“Sally” Burnett – Simmons), 67, of Bath, NC, went to heaven on Saturday August 25, 2012.
A funeral service will be held at 2:00 PM Thursday, August 30, 2012 at St. Clair’s Church of Christ officiated by Craig Hagen and John Baldwin. Burial will follow in Bayview Community Cemetery. Jay C. Morgan, Jr., Jay Morgan III, Jay Morgan IV, Dustin Morgan, Keith Diamond and Lynn Roper will serve as pallbearers.
She was born to the late George and Francene Burnett, on Feb. 19, 1945, in Walpole, MA. Sarah graduated from Walpole High School in 1963 and received a BSc in Nursing from Simmons College in 1967. She married her soul mate and devoted husband Linwood (Lynn) Roper, Jr. in 1995.
Sarah worked for many years as a stay-at-home mom for three kids and then ran a bridal shop in Savannah, GA. She returned to her career as a nurse in Columbia, SC. After working more than 20 years as a loving caregiver for hospice and oncology patients, Sarah and Lynn retired from Hartsville, SC to Bath in 2008.
Sarah will be remembered for the joy and happiness she brought to so many others through her life and work, her loving and generous spirit, and her zest for life.
She is survived by her husband and three children: Timothy P. Simmons, of Columbia, SC; Amy L. Simmons, of Abu Dhabi, UAE  and Christian B. Simmons, of Charleston, SC and a granddaughter: Sara AlQubaisi of Abu Dhabi, UAE.   She also is survived by two sisters: Emily Wagner, of Houghton, MI; and Francene Jones, of Walpole, MA and her cousin Patricia Porzig, of St. Pete Beach, FL who was like a sister to her.
Memorial gifts can be made to Northwestern University, Department of Neurology, Attn: Dr. Teepu Siddique, MD, Tarry Bldg. 13-715, 303 East Chicago Ave., Chicago, IL 60611.
The family will receive friends from 1:00 PM to 2:00 PM on Thursday prior to the service at the Family Life Center at the church.
