SOUND OFF, Aug. 31

Sound Off highlights anonymous, brief takes on the news offered via telephone by Daily News readers.

The article in the Washington Daily News wrote by Monica Moore says that, “Whitford said you travel the length of a football field in five minutes at 55 mph.” How can you do that when you should travel about twice that far? When you’re traveling 60 miles an hour, you’re traveling 88 feet per second. You better do your figures again, Ryan. Editor’s Correction: The quote by Mr. Whitford should have read, ” Texting takes our eyes off the road for an average of 5 seconds. At 55 mph, that’s driving the length of a football field – completely blind.”

I would like to commend the Beaufort County Community College Board of Trustees for their recent selection of Dr. Tansey as new president of the college. She has already demonstrated her ability to … utilize the college’s financial resources for the purchase of a new vehicle, the color blue, for her use because she does not like the current white cars that the college currently owns. Good job board of trustees.

I’ve been reading the Sound Off for many years. I think it’s about time that the Washington Daily News change its title from “Sound Off” to “Daily Trivia.”
