The person who called to Sound Off about Eagle’s Wings paying $3 for a pound of groceries needs to get the facts straight. It’s 19 cents a pound for food from the Albemarle Food Bank in Elizabeth City because that’s where it gets it from.

What a novel idea, fixing that old home for whatever reason. It seems like the City of Washington wants to tear down all the old homes, and yet it says that we’re the historic Washington. What’s so historic when all the old homes are gone, when downtown is gone? We’re becoming a throw-away society, a disposable society. We want quick and easy results, quick and easy fixes. We want trailers. We want modular homes. We want things now and don’t worry about tomorrow. Maybe it’s time to pass some regulations to make it a little harder to tear down these older homes, incentives to fix the older homes before we become a nation of trailer park people. By and large, trailer parks are viewed badly. It’s just the way it is.
