Mr. Christopher Joe “Chris” Spain Sr., age 41, a resident of Spain Drive, Washington, died Friday, Sept. 7, 2012.

A celebration of his life will be held Monday, Sept. 10, 2012, at 11 a.m. in the chapel of Hillside Funeral Service officiated by Bobby Waters. Dallas Spain Jr., Alex Spain, Edward Potter, Mike Edwards, Jr., Ricky Everett and Justin Everett will serve as pallbearers. Burial will follow at the Spain Family Cemetery. The family will receive friends Sunday, Sept. 9, 2012, from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. at Hillside Funeral Service & Cremations, 4500 Hwy 264 E., Washington, and at other times ay the home of Kenneth and Dawn Spain, 208 Spain Drive, Washington.

Chris was born in Carteret County on Aug. 8, 1971, son of the late Elton Homer Spain and Minnie Woolard Spain who survives. He was an employed with Flanders Filters as a welder. Chris loved the outdoors, hunting, fishing and his dogs.

In addition to his mother he is survived by his brothers, Elton Homer Spain Jr. (Roxanne), Dallas Spain (Kimberly) and Kenneth Spain (Dawn) all of Washington, and his sisters, Vicky S. Born (John) of Greenville, Minnie S. Wainwright (Ray) of Washington and Penny S. Waters (Victor) of Bath and the love of his life, Melissa Stoop Alligood (Mel).

In addition to his father, Chris was preceded in death by his son, Christopher Joe “Joey” Spain Jr. on Sept. 30, 2011, who was his best friend.
