William Frost Tolan, Sr., age 80, a resident of 569 East St., Belhaven, NC, died Sunday, September 9, 2012, with his loving family by his side.
A funeral service will be held at 1:30 PM Tuesday, September 11, 2012, at Belhaven Missionary Baptist Church officiated by Pastor David Pierce. Burial will follow in Belhaven Community Cemetery.
Frosty was born in Beaufort County on August 31, 1932, son of the late Homer Stion Tolan, Sr. and the late Pearl Matilda Ross Tolan. He was a 1950 graduate of John A Wilkinson High School and served his country in the U.S. Navy during the Korean Conflict. In 1952 he married his loving wife of 61 years, Susan Shirley Spencer of Hyde County. His love of the water lead to a career in commercial fishing, later retiring as an engineer with Hays Tug and Launch Co. of Pennsylvania. He was a member of the Belhaven Free Will Baptist Church.
Surviving along with Frosty’s wife Shirley, are three sons: William F. “Frosty” Tolan, Jr. and his wife Rebecca of Wilmington, NC, Ray S. Tolan and his wife Claudia of Chapel Hill, NC and Gregory W. Tolan of Asheville, NC; three daughters: Susan Gale Tolan of Gainesville, GA, Robin T. Maqueira and fiancé Michael Hearley of Panama City, FL, and Natalie Butler and her husband Jamie of Tampa, FL; a brother: Delma Tolan of Belhaven; two sisters: Marjorie Ratcliffe of Pantego and Elaine Wade of Thomasville, NC; a daughter-in-law: Aidree V. Tolan of Ashville, NC; eleven grandchildren and one great-grandchild. Frosty was predeceased in death by two brothers: Homer S. Tolan, Jr., and Elmo Tolan and two sisters: Evelyn Tolan and Hazel T. Jarvis.
Visitation will begin at 12:30 p.m. followed by burial services at 1:30 p.m.
