Mr. Walter R. Taylor, Sr., age 87, a former resident of Belhaven, NC, and a recent resident of Roanoke River Nursing & Rehabilitation Center, passed away Sunday, September 9, 2012. A celebration of his life will be held Thursday, September 13, 2012, at 11:00 AM in the chapel of Hillside Funeral Service officiated by Pastor Medford Hopkins. Tim Taylor, Sammy Everette, Roy Allen, Joe Coghill and Kenny Dunbar will serve as pallbearers. Burial with military honors will follow at Belhaven Community Cemetery. The family will receive friends Wednesday, September 12, 2012, from 7:00 to 9:00 PM at Hillside Funeral Service & Cremations, 4500 Hwy 264 E., Washington, NC.
Mr. Taylor was born in Beaufort County on April 15, 1925, son of Maggie Taylor. He was a U.S. Army veteran of WWII and the Korean War. Mr. Taylor was married to Doris Tetterton Taylor who predeceased him. He was retired from the NCDOT Ferry Division after 15 years of service as a mechanical engineer. Mr. Taylor attended Belhaven Pentecostal Holiness Church.
Mr. Taylor is survived by his sons, Pastor Walter Taylor, Jr. (Elaine) and Robert E. Taylor (Darlene) both of Greenville, his sister, Claudia “Joel” Dunbar Allen of Roper, 3 grandchildren, Richard, Nacole and Tim and 5 great-grandchildren.
In addition to his wife he was preceded in death by his brothers and sisters.
