James Robert “Robbie” Council, Sr., age 60, a resident of 5593 Terra Ceia Road, Pantego, NC, died Thursday September 20, 2012, at his home.
A funeral service will be held at 3 PM Saturday, September 22, 2012, at Free Union Free Will Baptist Church in the Free Union Community of Pinetown. The service will be officiated by the Rev. Tony Parrish. Burial will follow in the Council Family Cemetery at the home. Members of Pantego Volunteer Fire Department will serve as pallbearers and honorary pallbearers.
Robbie was born in Northampton County on April 18, 1952, son of the late Harley Melton Council and the late Donaldeen Futhrell Council. He was a 1972 graduate of Pantego High School. Robbie married the former Judy Marlene Brooks on September 23, 1973, who survives. He was a self-employed truck driver. He was a member of Pantego Volunteer Fire Department where he served in many officer positions including Chief and currently served as Safety Officer. Robbie Coached Little League Baseball in Belhaven and lead the Cox Chevrolet’s team to season champions one year. Robbie was a member of Free Union Free Will Baptist Church.
Surviving along with Robbie’s wife Judy of the home are two sons: James Robert “Jimmy” Council, Jr. and his wife Tracey of Belhaven and David Alan Council of Pantego; a sister: Betty Ann Allen and her husband Danny of Pantego; a brother: Steve Council and his wife Cathy of Belhaven; four grandchildren: James Robert “Jamie” Council III, Jeni Lyn Council, Lucas Daniels Council and Wyatt Swindell Council and seventeen nieces and nephews.
The family will receive friends 7 PM to 8:30 PM Friday September 21, 2012, at Free Union Free Will Baptist Church and other times at the home.
