Larry Gene Cox, 73, of Washington, NC, died Wednesday, October 17, 2012, at Vidant Medical Center in Greenville, NC.
Graveside services will be held at 2:00 PM on Saturday, October 20, 2012, at Oakdale Cemetery in Washington, with Pastor Scott Setzer officiating.
Larry was born July 2, 1939, in Beaufort County to the late Charley Robert and Ruby Leigh Latham Cox. He was a loving husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, brother and friend. He worked in the grocery business most of his life. The last was Piggly Wiggly of Washington, NC where he worked in the produce department. Larry graduated from Washington High School and served in the NC National Guard as a medic. He was an avid collector of coins, bottles and other antiques. He enjoyed growing plants, raising farm animals and helping older people with their yard and home maintenance as long as he was able. Larry was a member of Second Baptist Church of Washington where he served as an usher, belonged to the couples’ class and participated in other activities in the church.
He is survived by his wife of 33 years, Christine Hatcher Cox, of the home; his children, Teresa Cox Mayle (Michael) of Roanoke Rapids, NC; Corinna Cox of Bath, NC; SFC Timothy Joel Cox (Sherry) of Clarksville, TN; and Melissa C. Warren of Bath, NC; a stepson, Benjamin Boone of Washington, NC; brother, Mike Cox (Marie) of Washington, NC; grandchildren, Dawn Riffle Harper (Michael), Karlee Squire, and Casey Squire of Bath, NC; Shana Cox of Washington, Tevin Jackson, Raven Warren, and Calin Warren of Bath; R. Adam Tetterton of Raleigh, NC and Jacee Cox of Clarksville, TN; step-grandchildren, Ryan Hester of Washington and Charlene Davis Passot (Jeff) of New Bern, NC. There are 4 step-great-grandchildren and 4 great-grandchildren. He had a special relationship with step-great-grandchild Susan Nicole Hester of New Bern, NC and a special dog, Baby Girl.
He was preceded in death by his parents and his stepdaughter, Susan Jean Boone.
The family will receive friends from 7:00 to 8:30 PM, on Friday, October 19, 2012, at Paul Funeral Home & Crematory in Washington.
