Washington fans flocked to the Pam Pack football game at West Carteret and were not disappointed as Washington wrapped up the regular season with a 31-14 victory on Friday night.
With the win, Washington upped its record to 8-3 (5-2) and locked down second place in the Coastal Conference standings, which should lock up a home playoff game next week.
“I just want to thank the fans,” Washington coach Sport Sawyer said. “We had a lot of fans their tonight and hopefully we can have a home playoff game for them.”
The Pam Pack won its fourth straight game as running back Markell Spencer rushed for over 100 yards and two TDs, while QB Jimmy Williams matched his rushing effort and threw for over 100 yards.
Will Cutler added a 23-yard field to cap the scoring.
Defensively, the Pack surrendered and early score but clamped down after that as Williams picked off a pass, DT Trevon Wallace recovered a fumble and D.J. Bell had an interception of his own.
“It was a big win for us,” Sawyer said. “They went up 7-0 but our guys fought back and made some big time plays for us tonight. … These guys on and off the field are good young men and I’m very proud of them and the coaching staff.”
Sawyer also gave credit to the JV team for finishing 7-3 and praised the effort of its players and coaches.
