ArtWalk hits the streets tonight

Published 9:36 pm Wednesday, November 7, 2012

The last ArtWalk of 2012 will be held tonight in downtown Washington from 6 p.m. to 9 p.m.
The Beaufort County Arts Council and the Washington Harbor District Alliance present this event, with support from participating galleries and merchants.
All participating galleries and merchants will be open late, and most will offer free refreshments and beverages.
BCAC’s Lane Gift Shop & Gallery will be open, along with the Civic Center gallery. The current exhibit features the award work from the 48th Annual Fine Arts Show.
Lone Leaf Gallery & Custom Framing will open a new exhibit titled “Awaken” by Lisa Beth Robinson. This will be Robinson’s second exhibit at the gallery. An instructor at East Carolina University, Robinson is an accomplished creator of artists’ books. The works in the exhibit visualize the relationship between language and experience, making connections between disassociated objects and concerns.
River Walk Gallery & Arts Center will be open with a new exhibit of nature photography by Guy Livesay. New work by jewelry artist Debbie O’Neal will be featured as well. River Walk will also showcase its great selection of “literary art” with books by local writers.
The Inner Banks Artisans’ Center will have the Beaufort County Traditional Music Association on hand with live music in the Union Alley Coffeehouse. Artists in the center’s many studios will be on view working and creating their own work on site. Art Tyndall’s studio on Water Street is always fun to visit, with Tyndall serving as host and always having a collection of fresh work on view.
Local merchants who are participating in ArtWalk include The Little Shoppes of Washington. Besides the many merchants offering a variety of unique and original gift items, there are also many original artworks on display by local artists. There is a real-estate business getting in on ArtWalk, with Coldwell Banker Coastal Rivers Realty displaying the award-winning entries from their recent art drawing contest for young people ages 5 through 11.
All galleries and participating merchants are located within easy walking distance of one another. A map with directions to participating galleries may be found at each gallery location.
