There’s a nuclear weapon buried in Goldsboro.
That little tidbit, mentioned by writer Richard Folsom at a previous Sunday Afternoon Tea at River Walk Gallery, was enough to pique the interests of those in attendance.
“It was so intriguing,” said Jayne Wall, an organizer of the afternoon teas. “He gave such an interesting talk that people have been waiting and waiting for this book to come out.”
The wait ends Sunday when Folsom, a graduate of East Carolina University and resident of Blounts Creek, reads from his latest novel, “The Project.” This installment of the Sunday Afternoon Tea series starts at 2 p.m.
Wall said the series was started to feature local writers and writers with local ties. The guest speakers are chosen from the collection of books sold at River Walk.
Eloise Currie has attended previous teas. She said they’re low-key and informal events with great writers.
“The Project” is the story of the dangers of nuclear proliferation, said Currie.
“Folsom’s understanding of the complexities of religion and Islamic culture give ‘The Project’ depth and realism as it takes the reader on a fast-paced journey through Paris, the Middle East and many locations in eastern North Carolina where, in reality, a nuclear bomb was accidentally dropped and remains buried to this day,” she said.
Copies of “The Project” and Folsom’s earlier work, “Indian Wood,” will be available for purchase.
The River Walk Gallery is located at 139 W. Main St., Washington. Refreshments will be served.
